Honda recently received more J.D. Power and Associates 2011 Initial Quality Study(SM) awards than any other automaker. As a matter of fact, seven Honda vehicle models, including the Accord, Crosstour, Fit, Civic, Insight, Element and Ridgeline, were honored with J.D. Power IQS awards this year. The new TV commercial "Lineup" celebrates this accomplishment while showcasing the winning Honda models. Proof, once again, that class-leading quality is in Honda's DNA.

How Honda Achieved Zero Waste to Landfill

Honda has achieved one of the most important targets in the company's longstanding "Green Factory" initiative in North America: zero-waste-to-landfill. Ten of 14 Honda manufacturing plants in North America are now operating with zero waste to landfill, while the remaining four plants are functioning with "virtually zero" waste to landfill.Waste sent to landfills has been dramatically reduced at Honda auto plants throughout North America?from 62.8 pounds of industrial waste to landfills for every automobile produced in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2001(FY2001), to an estimated 1.8 pounds per automobile in the current fiscal year 2012. Among all of its 14 plants in North America, Honda now sends less than one-half of 1 percent of all operating waste to landfills. Remaining waste product is either recycled or used for energy recovery. Many of the waste-reduction and recycling activities were undertaken through Honda's associate involvement programs, including its "NH Circle" quality circles, where teams of associates throughout the company engage in an annual competition to improve Honda's value to its customers and society, with a strong focus on efficiency, cost and waste reduction.

Honda recalling 2.26M vehicles in U.S

2008 Honda Accord

Honda has announced a voluntary recall on 2.26 million vehicles around the world, 1.5 million of which reside in the United States. This recall concerns the automatic transmission software of the 2005-2010 Accord (four-cylinder), 2007-2010 CR-V and 2005-2008 Element, where the transmission's secondary shaft can be damaged if quick shifts are made between Reverse, Neutral and Drive (as a driver might do when trying to rock free a stuck vehicle from snow or mud).

The automaker states that, in this scenario, a secondary shaft can be damaged and a bearing can break, causing the engine to stall or lead to difficulty with putting the vehicle in Park. Honda's remedy includes an update to the transmission's control module software, easing the transition between gears to reduce the possibility of damage.

Honda has confirmed that no injuries or deaths have been reported because of the gearbox malady. Owners will be able to take their cars to dealers and have the recall work done free of charge, and Honda will begin its owner notification process starting on August 31. Follow the jump for the automaker's official release.
