Honda Unveils Compressed Natural Gas Honda GX

Honda has released their Natural Gas powered car, the CNG Honda GX. CNG stands for Compressed Natural Gas.  The vehicle is currently available at 13 dealerships nationwide, but will hopefully be coming soon to Sunnyside Honda.

Honda first unveiled their CNG Honda GX, similar to the new Civic sedan, to dealers in Oklahoma.  OK offers a hefty tax credit to buyers of alternative fuel, so it was the natural choice. Oklahoma is well-known as a producer of natural gas, and has refueling infrastructure already in place.

The GX is expected to sport a sticker price of $26,000. Oklahoma offers Tax credits form $3,000-$4,000, and possibly as much as $7,000, so its possible to pick one up for $19,000.

"These credits benefit our state because they allow us to use local resources to help reduce our country's dependence on dangerous foreign oil. They are also clearly serving their intended purpose as an economic incentive for Oklahomans and Oklahoma businesses to make the switch to CNG-powered vehicles," said House Speaker Chris Benge, R-Tulsa.

Driving a GX is the same as a gasoline-powered Civic.  The tank is built of Kevlar, and the vehicle has received a 5 star safety tating.  Highway mileage is 36 miles per gasoline gallon equivalent.  Natural gas costs about $1.39 "a gallon" at a public station.  Savings can be increased by installing a home-filling station and purchasing fuel in bulk.
